Internet, the New Zealand-bred stallion who completed Badminton in 15th place this year, will be available to British breeders this season.
The chestnut stallions semen will only be available for a few weeks, either chilled or fresh, while he is standing at Jane Holderness-Roddams West Kington Stud, Wiltshire, before returning home to New Zealand.
Internet is by the New-Zealand based German-bred sire Oldenburg out of a thoroughbred Grade B show jumping mare, Dolly Gray. He was bred by current owners John and Jocelyn Bayly, who run the Wairoa Station in Bay of Islands in the North Island, where the Baylys have 17 of his offspring.
The stallion was contesting his first four star event at the Mitsubishi Motors event at the beginning of May, and at only eight-years-old, was one of the youngest horses competing, and one of only two stallions competing. (Viceroy II, ridden by Pippa Funnell was retired on the cross-country).
Ridden by Badminton first-timer, New Zealander Kate Hewlett, Internet moved up from 29th place after the dressage to 12th after a quick and accurate cross-country round, but an unfortunate four bars down in the show jumping knocked them down three places. He was the second highest-placed stallion in Badmintons history British stallion Yarland Summersong, ridden by Marie Christine Duroy, was eighth in 1995 and the first stallion to complete since then.
The stallion has been long-listed for the Athens Olympics in August, and is in contention following his strong showing at Badminton.
