Sponsored ride in aid of Injured Jockeys Fund
A 14 year-old rider is organising a 100-mile sponsored ride in April in aid of the Injured Jockeys Fund and equine rescue centre Bransby horses.
Dani Kasem is riding the Lindsey Trail, a continuous loop across the Lincolnshire Wolds on her cob Dora staying in different places each night.
She is setting off on the four-day ride on 7th April with her riding instructor, Gilly Pope and her friend, Rachel Barker.
“We wanted to do something new and fun. The ride has taken a lot of planning and we are hoping to raise as much money as possible for the two charities,” Dani told H&H.
Polo match in aid of Help the Heroes and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance
A charity polo match is being held at Tidworth Polo Club on Sunday 31 May to raise funds for Help for Heroes and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
The action starts at 12pm with the Duke of York’s Cup between the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.
At 2pm injured service men and women play alongside members of the Army team in The Heroes’ Cup.
This is followed by the Best of British Under 25s match at 3pm, featuring eight of the top names in British polo.
Last year’s a crowd of 5,000 enjoyed a sunny day’s polo and helped raised £15,000 for Help for Heroes.
New attractions this year include displays from the Red Devils parachute regiment freefall team and the Band of the Royal Artillery.
Reserved pitchside parking slots cost £35-£60 per car, the general carpark is £25 and grandstand tickets are available for £10.
Marathon in aid of Retraining of Racehorses
A 27-year-old English teacher is taking part in the Great North Run to raise funds for Retraining of Racehorses (RoR).
Samantha Osborne has retrained and rehomed eight racehorses over the last three years, has competed in ROR showing classes and is a panel judge.
She told H&H she is doing the run “to give something back to the charity which is close to my heart.”
The Great North Run is Ms Osborne’s first half marathon, but she has raised money for equestrian charities in the past finishing 2nd in a charity race at Southwell in 2012.
“This is a huge personal challenge for me,” she said “but something ROR are hugely supporting me with.”
Fundraiser for Alzheimer Scotland
An 18-year-old dressage rider from Scotland has presented Alzheimer Scotland with a cheque for £2,345.92.
Robyn Smith organised a dressage to music demonstration, clear round show jumping and dressage competitions to raise the funds.
She also clipped and looked after friends’ horses while they were on holiday, and ran refreshment stands at local PC rallies and BD training days.
Robyn has competed internationally in pony and junior dressage competitions and has now moved up to young riders.
