Jayne Ross is the guest editor for Horse&Hound’s showing special, on sale 19 March. Jayne won her fourth supreme title at Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) in 2014. Held at Birmingham’s NEC, HOYS is a good hunting ground for Jayne — last year’s success came on Broadshard Simplicity (pictured top), a former hack turned riding horse, and followed in the steps of Soldier Brave, The Philanderer and Comberton Clancy. Jayne has also been successful at Royal Windsor and other major competitions on the showing circuit.
This impressive collection of accolades, plus Jayne’s stellar reputation for producing top-class show horses and always being forthcoming and professional when approached for interviews in Horse&Hound, is why we invited her to guest edit our showing special.
During meetings with H&H’s showing editor, Aimi Clark, Jayne was brimming with ideas for the issue and enthusiasm for her sport. She has been involved with the whole process, from brainstorming to signing off final pages, and remained easy to work with, at the end of the telephone whenever needed, offering input and advice regularly and contributing expert opinion to the finished features. She fitted all this in around preparing her string for the season ahead.
About Jayne Ross
Even though she is extremely successful in the showring, Jayne doesn’t have a horsey background. However, winning is in her blood as her parents were successful athletes. Jayne’s mother skated in the Oslo Olympics and her father was a two-time world speedway champion. Jayne started riding a friend’s pony when she was five years old and she went on to join the Pony Club, evented and dabbled in horse racing before her showing career took off. Jayne is married to Alan, a doctor, and they live in Maidenhead, Berkshire. She has two daughters.
