Between March 10 and 13, around a quarter of a million people will cram into Prestbury Park for this year’s Cheltenham Festival. There are 27 high quality races over the four days and punters will get a chance to see some of the finest horses in the world.
What you’ll see at this year’s Festival
The Cheltenham Festival is held over four days, from Tuesday 10 to Friday 13 March, 2015:
- Champion Day – Tuesday 10 March – The ‘Cheltenham roar’ gets the action under way ahead of the Champion Hurdle featuring last year’s winner Jezki and the legendary Hurricane Fly
- Ladies’ Day – Wednesday 11 March – Highlights include the battle between the last two winners of the Queen Mother Champion Chase, Sprinter Sacre and Sire de Grugy
- St Patrick’s Thursday – Thursday 12 March – including the Ryanair Chase and the World Hurdle
- Cheltenham Gold Cup Day – Friday 13 March – Can 2014 winner Lord Windermere triumph again or will favourite Silviniaco Conti win the big race?

With a number of Cheltenham favourites not in action this year, there are plenty of chances for new names to become legends. Six times Mares’ Hurdle winner Quevega has now retired and so this could be a chance for last year’s second place horse Glens Melody to step up.
Another horse that is destined to go one better this year is last year’s World Hurdle runner-up Annie Power. The Irish mare proved herself to be of the highest calibre and only lost to the locally trained More Of That in 2014.
The New One looks to have a good shout in the Champion Hurdle having been badly hampered when travelling well last year. He managed to recover to finish in third place behind Jezki and My Tent Or Yours and should go better this time.
It may also be worth following the fortunes of Silviniaco Conti who goes in the Gold Cup on Friday. The David Nicholls horse was travelling well when he fell three fences out in 2013 and finished in fourth place last year. He is the one to beat in the big race.
The action gets under way at 1.30pm on Tuesday 10 March with Douvan the favourite to win the opening race, the Supreme Novices Hurdle.
