Manicures, massages and pop stars: showjumping hospitality with the wow-factor

  • A burger van is enough to keep most of us happy post-showjumping. But the hospitality put on for the Glock Horse Performance Center CSI3* in Austria last weekend (29 January-1 February 2015) puts our hot-dogs to shame.

The show is run by Gaston and Kathrin Glock, the famous gun manufacturers, better known in equestrian circles as owners of Edward Gal and Hans Peter Minderhoud’s top dressage horses and patrons to Dutch showjumper Gerco Schröder, whose stallion London now competes under the family’s prefix. The south Austrian sports facility has been growing since Kathrin took over in 2010.

Spectators enjoyed a weekend of top-class competition, with William Whitaker and Fandango claiming the grand prix title. But beyond the showjumping, what was on offer?
    H&H finds out…

    The entertainment

Singer Leona Lewis entertained guests on Thursday night, while former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger jetted in to perform on Saturday’s London-themed night.

But it was Robbie Williams who took centre stage and thrilled the crowds with his performance on Friday night.

Supermodel Naomi Campbell strutted down the catwalk for the Fashion For Relief show organised by Kathrin Glock to raise money for the fight against Ebola.

“I enjoy spending time with my friends Gaston and Kathrin Glock in Austria, and we are working together successfully on this important project against Ebola,” said Naomi.

    The riders’ lounge

On site for the four-day show, guests, riders and connections could enjoy an opulent riders’ lounge complete with manicures, pedicures and massage, and a styling lounge — not forgetting the dog lounge, where pooches could be pampered too.

    And something for the kids…

Exquisite food was rustled up by German celebrity chef Alfons Schuhbeck, while a kids’ lounge, cinema and live acts under the motto “Horses and Stars” entertained everyone.
