A mare and foal were hit by a lorry on the M25 this morning (18 September).
The loose horses, seen on the anti-clockwise carriageway at the J30 exit, were reported to the police at 6.55am.
A police spokesman confirmed a heavy goods vehicle collided with the pair a few minutes later.
The mare smashed the windscreen of the lorry and a vet was called to the scene to treat the horse’s serious leg injuries.
Police could not confirm whether the mare and foal had survived the accident but the driver of the lorry is believed to have not suffered serious injuries.
The accident caused severe congestion around the Dartford Crossing and one lane of the M25 was shut for half an hour while the horses were removed in a horsebox.
Officers are not sure who owns the horses and would ask anyone with further information to come forwards.
