Foals collect two elite premiums in Scotland

  • The Baileys Horse Feeds/ British Breeding/British Equestrian Federation (BEF) Futurity headed north  to the Scottish National Equestrian Centre near Edinburgh on 6 August where two elite premiums were awarded.

Topping the scores north of the border was showjumping filly foal, Just A Gem pictured top (Erdento x Otis) for sister owners and breeders Pamela Kerr and Janice McDonald from Larbert. Just A Gem came home with an elite premium of 9.11. Janice said: “She is a great foal. We sadly lost the first two foals we bred from our mare, Bogton Belle, who scored a first premium at the Futurity in 2009.  We plan to produce Just A Gem under saddle from home for jumping.”

J'aime JouerIn the eventing section, Kate Thomson’s filly foal J’aime Jouer, pictured right (Hemmingway x Intrepid) scored an elite premium of 9.02. Kate said: “J’aime Jouer is just a lovely little horse. She is the first one we have bred. She is out of my mare Acton Moja, who is an outstanding mare with a star character. She is a real family horse and I am so glad she has passed on her attributes to her foal.”

Best of the three-year-olds was the sports pony colt, Brando (Hilken’s Black Delight x Voyage) owned and bred by Debbie Bridges from Sidewood Dressage in Forth. Brando scored a higher first premium of 8.93 in the dressage section.

Sally Burns of Rachan Sports Horses in Hawick had a very good day with three young horses all scoring higher first premiums.  They are all by the same stallion, Broadstone Westcountry.  Rachan Westcountry Da Vinci (Broadstone Westcountry x Der Lord), a colt foal scored a premium of 8.93 in the dressage section. Close on his heels was Rachan Westcountry Paola Aurora (Broadstone Westcountry x De Niro), a filly dressage foal scoring a higher first premium of 8.86.  Finally, eventing filly foal, Rachan Westcountry Dude Looks Like A Lady (Broadstone Westcountry x Riverman) scored a higher first premium of 8.54.

Evaluators for the day were Lesley Peyton Gilbert, Alison Fellows and futurity vet Keith Chandler.

The Futurity continues today (Friday 8 August) at Richmond EC in North Yorkshire.
