The Blue Cross pet charity currently has a fine collection of quality cobs in desperate need of new homes. Horse teams have done the groundwork with them and now we need your help to turn them into fantastic riding horses.
If you have always had your eye on a good cob and have the experience and facilities to back and bring one on, now is the time to turn your dream into a reality.
To inspire you, here’s a gallery of some of the Blue Cross cobs who have been successfully rehomed and are making their mark in competition homes, riding schools, equestrian training centres and as laid-back companions.
If you feel able to offer a horse a home either by fostering, short term loaning or rehoming then please visit www.bluecross.org.uk or call 0300 777 1897 where you will be able to find more information on all these ways of helping.
Poor Timmy came into the care of the Blue Cross after being neglected for many years. His hooves were severely overgrown causing Timmy extreme discomfort. After lots of love and attention, Timmy was transformed and is now living happily in a home as a companion pony.
Evan was very nervous of being handled when he arrived at Blue Cross. He is now a completely different horse and is excelling in dressage where he came fifth out of 25 in his first competition.
Basil came into Blue Cross as a 7-month-old foal along with his mother. Neither horses had received any care or handling and were extremely nervous and untrusting of people. After being fostered for several years, Basil has matured into a well-rounded adult and is a good stamp of a cob. Now 4, he is going to a riding school where his training will continue.
Storm was rehomed from Blue Cross Burford nearly 10 years ago as a 3-year-old. Some of his many highlights include winning both novice and elementary unaffiliated dressage tests on the same day and has been affiliated with British Dressage. To date he has competed in 3 affiliated Prelim competitions in which he was placed third and fourth. His loan home says: ‘Storm lives out all year and is a fantastic horse. For fun we have a go at showjumping and cross-country but it’s dressage that we take seriously, training 6 days a week in all weathers. I have no idea what I would be expected to pay for a horse of this quality today, but I am so blessed to loan Storm and so grateful to Blue Cross for allowing me this opportunity.’
