RDA gets £100,000 lottery boost

  • The Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) has been awarded a cheque for £100,000 from the People’s Postcode Lottery — a postcode-based subscription lottery that donates 22.5% of the cost of every ticket to charity.

The money will go towards vital equipment, which is needed to cater for the huge demand for places. For every RDA rider there are 4 more on the waiting list. There are already some 28,000 children and adults benefitting from the RDA’s activities.

RDA chief executive Ed Bracher said: “The support we have received from players of People’s Postcode Lottery has been quite overwhelming and is a massive boost to the RDA and its volunteers.

“Tackling waiting lists and increasing the help we can offer to our groups are real priorities right now. Funds from the players will have an immediate and lasting impact on our organisation and the people we help.”

Hazel Johnstone, trusts manager at People’s Postcode Lottery, said that the relationship between the 2 organisations started in 2011 and has resulted in the RDA being supported on 6 previous occasions at a more local level.

“Most recently, players supported the RDA centre in Dundee with funding to buy new horse Mikey,” she said. “We are delighted that players will continue to support RDA on a grander scale across Britain. This funding will ultimately enable an increase in service users and ensure the charity’s continued growth and reach.”
