Princely win at Ponies (UK)

  • Glenshane Prince claims his sixth private driving championships this season at Ponies (UK)

The private driving season may have been depleted, but this has not held back Jean Clayden and Glenshane Prince who reigned supreme once again at Ponies (UK).

Having won the single turnout exceeding 138cm class, Glenshane Prince went on to play to the appreciative crowd in the electric atmosphere of the evening programme at the East of England showground, high-stepping his way to victory.

Derek Wootton, who judged the classes during the day, as well as the championship, said: “There was just nothing I could fault – he was so balanced and went beautifully.”

It was this stunning Hackney’s sixth private driving championship this season in seven shows.

The crowd in the packed grandstand, however, appeared to favour the winner of the not exceeding 138cm class – Gail Crosier with her dynamic section C stallion, Joyton Golden Dream – who took reserve spot.

“He did go beautifully and the crowd loved him,” agreed Mr Wootton. “It was a very difficult choice, but Glenshane Prince goes so consistently well. He just had the edge for me.”

Well-organised and attracting strong turnouts, the private driving, recreational driving and concours d’elegance classes made a significant mark on the show.

“This is the first time we’ve extended the classes to horses,” said executive administrator Betsy Branyan, who has largely been responsible for the upsurge in driving at this show.
