Royal support for polo spectacular

Spectators at polo’s “International Day” can look forward rubbing shoulders with royalty, as well as the rich the famous.

HRH The Prince of Wales, a keen polo player and supporter of the sport, will be at Cowdray Park to present the trophies and prizes to the winning teams on Sunday 29 July.

More than 10,000 people are expected to flock to the West Sussex polo club to watch England and Brazil battle it out for the 1911 Coronation Cup. Those who arrive for the morning session will see England ‘A’ will play the 2001 British Open Champions for the Claridges Silver Jubilee Cup.

“We are delighted that His Royal Highness is supporting our 31st International Day,” said John Tinsley, Chairman of the Hurlingham Polo Association, governing body of the sport. “This annual event is crucial to the association’s funding of polo in the Pony Clubs, schools and universities, bringing on the champions of the future”.

Proceeds from the daywill go to the Polo Charity Trust. The trust makes donations to youth programmes, injured riders charities and animal welfare organisations.
