Popular Scottish event rider and trainer Mary McFarlane died on Sunday (1 September). She was 56 and had been suffering from cancer.
Mary competed in top-level dressage and eventing, including riding at Badminton.
She was also an influential trainer to Scottish riders, including Ibby Macpherson, Will Murray, Gregor Knox and Carmen Gammie. In 2011 she was named British Horse Society trainer of the year.
Ibby told H&H: “She was a massive influence to young riders in Scotland, she helped many people and I am grateful for her support at the start of my career, when I competed with McCallan on the British junior event team.”
