Ascot shopping event to help hard hit traders

  • The Countryside Shopping Village and Fine Food Fair, a countryside shopping event on 20-21 July at Ascot racecourse aims to help traders whose businesses have suffered from the FMD crisis.

The show’s organiser, Sue Walsh, explained: “Around 314 shows have been cancelled this year and some of the traders are going out of business. Their livelihood has been taken away.

“Some aren’t able to make it to Ascot because of the cost of the stalls. “

Traders from all over the country are expected to the event, which will feature saddlery, clothes, carpets, jewellery and food stalls. There will also be live jazz entertainment and a hog roast.

This is the third such event to be held – and there could be more. Sue Walsh says she hoping for around 4000 visitors. An entry charge of £2 will go to a farmers’ aid charity.
