Three elite premiums were awarded to young potential eventers at the Baileys Horse Feeds/British Equestrian Federation/British Breeding (BEF) Futurity series at Southview EC in Cheshire yesterday (25 July, 2013).
Marilyn Marathe’s colt foal Legal Graffiti (pictured) topped the scores earning himself an elite premium of 9.15. He is by Grafenstolz, out of a Mill Law mare.
Marilyn’s daughter, Seema Marathe said: “We are chuffed to bits with him. We bought Legal Graffiti’s dam Mill Race II from Annie Allen in Scotland last autumn as we have been very interested in breeding from Mill Law lines. Having seen Grafenstolz at the Burghley stallion parade last year, we jumped at the chance of buying a Mill Law mare in foal to Grafenstolz”. The evaluators described the colt as having: “a light, agile canter with good reach and a harmonious topline”.
Colt foal Prophecy B attained an elite premium of 9.07. By Ramiro B, out of a Bertoni mare, the foal is owned and bred by Suzanne Waller, but was exhibited by the Harthill Stud.
Suzanne said: “Nina Barbour talked me in to going to the Futurity, I can’t thank her enough for her help. I am so pleased with how we got on and am hoping that we will have qualified for the Futurity eventing finals”.
Nina Barbour’s Harthill Power Game took an elite premium for the second year running. This yearling colt is by Power Blade, out of Belmont Virlandie. Interestingly, his score of 9.05 was very similar to the 9.01 he attained as a foal last year. The evaluators commented on his “balanced easy changes and good use of hindleg”.
Top scoring dressage youngster of the day was Sarah Higgins colt foal, Danford Degarre, who scored a higher first premium of 8.80. He is by Dimaggio, out of a Dutch Capitol mare.
Yearling colt Hocus Pocus headed the showjumping entries. He is owned and bred by Joseph Hughes-Jones and is by Zambesi, out of a Vancouver mare. Hocus Pocus scored a higher first premium of 8.69.
Next week, the Futurity moves on to Mysercough College on Tuesday and Arena UK on Thursday.
