The BHS Rescue Centre’s open day will be a great day out for all the family
Ponies rescued by the British Horse Society from ill treatment and neglect will be taking centre stage at the BHS Rescue Centre’s open day at Oxhill, Warks, on Sunday 19 August.
Highlights of the day will include rescued ponies demonstrating some of the centre’s success stories. Casper, a shetland pony who was rescued from a garden shed after being sold in a pub one Christmas, will be demonstrating his carriage driving skills while other ponies that have been successfully rehomed will be at the event, alongside ponies which are based at the centre.
Other displays to interest equestrian enthusiasts include Western riding, Spanish horses, Exmoors, Arabs, Dales and Irish Draft Horses, while non-horsey family members have a dog agility demonstration, bouncy castle, stalls, raffle, beer tent and refreshments to keep them amused.
BHS staff will be on hand throughout the day to discuss the problems associated with rescuing neglected ponies, and other equine welfare and care issues.
Visitors will be able to meet all the ponies on the BHS “adopt a pony” scheme and learn why the scheme is so important in raising vital funds for the centre.
The open day runs from 11am to 4 pm. A family ticket will admit two adults and two children for £5, an adult ticket costs £2, with children under 14 and OAPs just £1 each. Children under 5 are free.
