Q1. How many times has the RIHS been cancelled? A: Twice, only the two World Wars have interrupted the show in its history.
Q2. Where and when was the RIHS first held? A: The show started life at London’s Olympia in 1907 and became an elite society event.
Q3. Which venues have hosted the RIHS? A: Olympia, The White City Stadium, Wembley, Birmingham NEC and Hickstead have all played host to the British Horse Society’s flagship show over the years.
Q4. When did the show move to Hickstead and why? A: The show moved to the All England Jumping Course at Hickstead, Sussex in 1992 when mounting costs forced it out of the NEC and Douglas Bunn stepped in with the offer of a new home.
Q5. Other than top international showjumping, what other competitions are held at RIHS? A: There are showing championships for all types of horses and ponies, the Eventing Grand Prix, scurry driving and private driving, plus international dressage at Dressage at Hickstead.
Q6. Who won the King George V Gold Cup last year? The title went to the Netherlands for the first time since the competition began in 1907, when Hendrik-Jan Schuttert claimed the title on Cerona HS.
Q7. Which country celebrated winning the FEI Nations Cup leg at RIHS last year? Ireland enjoyed their first victory at Hickstead since 2001.
Q8. How many times has Louise Bell won the coveted RIHS working hunter title? An impressive 10 times, most recently with her own Into the Blue last year.
