Charlotte Dujardin has won Olympic gold medals and broken world records — and now she’s having a street named after her.
Winning double gold at last summer’s Games propelled Charlotte into the public eye and in honour of her achievement, a road in Enfield, north London, where she grew up, is to bear her name.
The road in Ponders End has been renamed Dujardin Mews.
Charlotte said she was “honoured”. She already has a golden postbox outside Enfield Town station.
“I am overwhelmed to have a street named after me. My roots are in Enfield and now I will always have a presence there,” she said.
Charlotte and her gold medal-winning partner Valegro made their first competitive appearance since Olympia at the weekend.
They won the grand prix freestyle with a score of 87.425% in Rotterdam — putting them firmly in the frame for European Championships selection.
“We were extremely pleased to see Valegro coming out after six months of not competing and performing so well,” said chef d’equipe Richard Waygood. “And we know there’s more to come.”
