For the third year running, Hurtwood Park Polo Club is hosting the Montagu Evans Pro/Celebrity Polo tournament in aid of the Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund. The event will take place on 17 June at the Hurtwood grounds near Cranleigh in Surrey.
“Last year we raised £20,000 for the charity, but we are hoping to get to £30,000 this year,” says organiser, Sarah Bingham.
Apart from the owner of Hurtwood Park polo grounds, Kenney Jones who was drummer with The Who and Small Faces, other celebrities include Mike Rutherford (Genesis and Mike and the Mechanics) his wife, dressage rider, Angie Rutherfood, actress, Stefanie Powers, model, Jodie Kidd and riders, Richard Meade and Dane Rawlings.
“There will be four polo teams each with four players. But it’s not just polo they have to play – they then have to take each other on at mounted games – sack races, balloon and bending,” says Sarah.
In between the two competitions there will be a dressage to music performance with six riders and a display by Tanya Larrigan and her miniature horses, the Mini Marvels. They will be performing their interpretation of River Dance.
Entrance to the grounds is £20 for a car on the day, £15 in advance.
