More than 140 dogs from Battersea Dogs Homes enjoyed a special walk last Saturday to raise money for the homes and for cancer relief
Dogs from Battersea Dogs Homes got the unusual chance to raise money for themselves on Saturday 13 October when they took part in a charity walk for the homes and cancer relief.
Around 200 people volunteered to take the dogs out to parts from three different sites run by the charity – the London site at Battersea, Old Windsor in Berkshire and Brands Hatch in Kent.
Groups of walkers, supervised by a staff member or volunteer chaperone from the homes, exercised the dogs for around 45 minutes to one hour.
“Everyone seemed to have agood time – dogs and people,” said a spokesperson for Battersea.
“It’s the sixth year of the walk and we are hoping to exceed last year’s total of £12,000.”
The charity said it “ran out of dogs” because there was so much demand.
“I think it’s popular because they are two very popular causes – animal and medical,” said the spokesperson.
“Apart from providing and extra ‘walkies’ for our residents, we also hope that this event will have helped raise awareness of the workwe do at Battersea Dogs Home.”
The money is to be divided equally between Battersea Dogs Home and MacMillan Cancer Relief.
