First day of the Tattersalls Houghton Yearling Sale sees two lots making a million guineas and more
The 2001 Tattersalls Houghton Yearling Sale got off to a good start yesterday (Tuesday) evening with two lots making a million guineas or more. Lot 25, a bay colt by Green Desert out of the Shirley Heights mare Colorvista made the days top price of 1,300,000 guineas.
The second highest price of the evening was the 1,000,000 guineas given by Michael Goodbody of Sheikh Maktoum Al Maktoum’s Gainsborough Stud Management for Lot 13, a Grand Lodge colt.
The median of 170,000 guineas was up 31% on last year’s corresponding session, while the average for the day was 254,937 guineas, up marginally on last year’s figures. Overall, 32 lots were sold for a total of 8,158,000 guineas.
Other notable sales were 750,000 guineas for the Watership Down Stud’s Sadler’s Wells half-brother to Group 1 winning filly Crystal Music.While the top priced filly, was 440,000 guineas paid for the Kingmambo filly out of the Nijinsky mare Balistroika.
