Britain’s dressage riders were on form at Saumur CDI in France
Sandy Phillips proved her winning formula by taking the title in the grand prix kur at Saumur CDI. Partnered by her ownan David Seal’s, 16.3hh bay gelding, No Limit 5, Sandy scored 71.8% leaving Swiss rivals, Biroit Wentzer and Sappalot, 30 marks behind in second place. Holland’s Jan Schotte and Goubergh’s Ideaal were third.”No Limmit has had a bit of a holiday and only just come back into work, but he’s getting stronger all the time,” said Sandy.
“The French judges might have been a little patriotic, but it all evened out in the end!”
Dutch duo Seth Roschman and Hercules claimed the honours in the intermediare II and looked set to challenge Spain’s Beatriz Perret Galat riding Beauvalais. However, this was not to be when the latter pair stormed to success in the grand prix and grand prix special with 72.05% and 71.8% respectively.
Three female riders represented Britain in France. They included Jane Bredin who was successful in the grand prix and grand prix kur on her own 16.3hh chestnut gelding, Cupido. Although the pair’s choreography proved popular, a variation in judge’s marks left them in ninth place. Frances Rudge and Stubbing Court Licardo were also placed sixth in the grand prix special.
Small Tour
Jane’s second ride, the Dutch-bred, nine-year-old gelding, Lucky Star, proved to be the best of the British earning secondplace in the intermediare I kur and prix st georges. Two of the three judges had Jane in line to win the prix st georges, but judge at M, Mrs Ramseier, disagreed and gave her a disappointing mark of 63.5% (more than 20 marks lower). This dropped Jane into second place with Marie Jose Hulsman and Lemon Trachet emerging as the winners scoring 67.67%.
