Arab racing descended on the South Coast on Saturday, when Brightonracecourse, hosted a seven-race card.
Waywood Ghost, the rejuvenated 10-year-old mare, took theopening race under Martin Smith.
Trainer Tony Brunton, who is based near Salisbury, also saddled runner-upCicerone, the mount of David Turner, the stable’s number one rider.
Winning owner Michael Brunton, said: “I think we’ve got a rather unhappy stablejockey. He couldn’t do the weight when we made the entry, but then theweights went up [at the final declaration stage]!” Turner gained a little compensation, and the Bruntons completed a double,when G Asdiqa beat three lowly rivals in the Jebel Ali Series qualifier. Suffolk-based Cherie Cunningham and her partner, George Cooper, are well-known in East Anglian point-to-point circles, and they landed the final race when four-year-old WFA Fayad picked up £200 for winning under Paul McAllister.
This was Cunningham’s second Arabian winner in her second season.
