The British Horse Society has published two booklets to help people considering a career with horses

The British Horse Society has published two booklets to help individuals understand what careers are available with horses and how the BHS qualifications work.

The “BHS Guide to Careers with Horses” includes useful information on the BHS Apprenticeship Scheme, as well as advice on becoming a riding instructor, groom, stud assistant, carriage driving groom, racing yard worker, saddler, farrier, veterinary nurse, mounted police officer, mounted army recruit, equestrian tourism worker and college lecturer.

This 40-page booklet contain useful addresses and contacts for each career choice, and costs £3.50 plus 50p postage and packing.

“The Guide to BHS Examinations” focuses on the professional exams which are available, while also touching on the society’s recreational qualifications.

It covers the BHS examination structure for grooms, stable managers and instructors as well as National and Scottish Vocational Qualifications, equestrian tourism exams and the international equestrian passport, for intructors wishing to work abroad.

This 24-page booklet costs £2.99.
