Tesco launch first dog creche

  • Pet food producers, Bakers Complete, have come up with a novel idea to help dog owners.

They are organising what they believe is the first ever creche for dogs at a Tesco store in Cardiff, which will open for a trial period from 22-27 May.

Pippin, the canine star of the BBC’s Come Outside will be guest of honour at the launch.

A spokeswoman for the group said: “We wanted to come up with an idea which would be helpful to dog owners during the summer when there is always the problem of leaving their pets in the car.”

The creche at the Cardiff Tesco Extra on the A48 will be officially opened at 10.30am on 22 May.

Shoppers are asked to book their dog in for a maximum of two hours – the contact number is (tel: 020 7761 1792).

There will be four kennels with runs and the creche will be supervised by a trained dog handler.

The service is free and the dogs will get also sample a free meal.
