Elite vets wanted to help British teams win medals against the rest of the world
The British senior dressage and show jumping teams are both looking for team vets to provide support in the lead up to next year’s World Equestrian Games in Jerez, Spain, and the Athens Olympics in 2004.
BEF director of equine sports, science and medicine John McEwen MRCVS is spearheading the appointments to the senior and paralympic teams.
“I would like to get a wide response to find the best people for the posts,” he said. “It is very important for our future plans, which have as their target WEG and Olympic medals.”
The job description includes the following elements: exceptional equine veterinary skills, a thorough knowledge and understanding of elite level equestrian sport and of BEF/FEI medication control.
As well as working with the BEF sports medicine and science director, the vets will liaise with world class performance manager Matthew Straker.
The senior eventing team vet is Jenny Hall, who looked after the riders in the run-up to and during their silver medal performance at Sydney.
