British breeding receives a major boost at the annual Trakehner show and grading with three mares being awarded premium status
The annual Trakehner Show and grading held at Warwickshire College last month proved the most successful to date with a record number of mares awarded premium status.
Inaara by the stallion Freidensfuerst, owned by Louise and Damien Ettridge, received a 10 for her trot and is now the highest graded Trakehner mare in Europe this year. Purchased in Germany last year she also took the Breeders’ Supreme Champion title. A delighted Louise said: “This is far in excess of what we could ever have imagined.”
Premium status was also awarded to Barbara Watkiss’ Santa Fe by Kostolany and the British-bred Holme Park Vincenca by Holme Grove Solomon, owned by Marleen Smith.
Fairlyn Gemini, an Anglo Arab stallion owned by Nicola Nash made history by becoming the first Anglo Arab to be graded into the UKTrakehner studbook. The total number of graded Trakehner stallions in the UK now stands at 20.
A record number of entries in the showing classes saw Holme Grove Fuijiama, owned by Barbara Watkiss win the Champion Foal award. Champion Broodmare award went to Holme Park Kalahari, and Marleen Smith’s Holme Grove Gardet took the Youngstock Championship. Reserve Foal Champion went to the Bluewood Stud’s Bluewood Ulrika by Hertzkristal
A new cup for the Best Independently-bred Foal was awarded to Mrs Barrass with Tamah Top Flight by Herzkristall. The Part Bred Trakehner championship was won by Mrs A Walker’s Holme Park Dynamo, with the reserve going to Erins Echo owned by Louise Hodson.
Saturday ended with the Trakehner stallions Sir Graditz and Schenkendorf giving a jumping display. The dressage stallions, Holme Grove Prokofiev, Bluewood Trocadero and Muschamp Korsakof also delighted the audience with a performance to music.
