Visit the RVC equine hospital

Your chance to see inside the RVC equine hospital which deals with around 1200 medical and surgical cases every year

Horse owners can enjoy a rare glimpse of the facilities at The Royal Veterinary College’s (RVC) Equine Hospital near North Mymms in Hertfordshire this weekend. The open morning will take place on Saturday 20 October from 10am to 1pm.

The event will open with a talk on laminitis, including the results of recent research undertaken at the RVC. Jason Tupper, RVC head of equine practice, will be advising on management of the laminitis equine, and Dr Simon Bailey will discuss the findings of the centre’s latest research. A representative of Jordans Feeds will also be onhand to advise on suitable feeding regimes.

Visitors will then go on a tour of the Hawkshead campus, including demonstrations of the equine treadmill, the RVC farrier, the X-ray department and the examination rooms.

The tour will also include a visit to the Cardiology Department where the college successfully fitted an in foal mare with a pacemaker earlier this year. She later gave birth of a healthy foal.

On arrival at the RVC visitors should park in the Queen Mother Hospital for Small Animals Car Park.
