The Royal Windsor Horse Show 2001 has been cancelled six weeks before the event was scheduled to place (9-13 May), due to the continuing foot and mouth crisis.
The decision to cancel was taken at a meeting of the show’s organisers today (23 March). It was decided that the potential risk of spreading foot-and-mouth disease was too great to allow the event to take place.
Simon Brooks-Ward, the show’s director, said: “This will come as a bitter blow to the owners and riders of the 3,000 plus horses that we had expected at the show this year, as it will to our sponsors, trade stand holders, members, spectators, competitors, contractors and local businesses.”
The show’s organisers will be refunding all competitor entry fees and those who have purchased tickets from the Box Office.
