Animal Health Trust Award winners


  • This year’s Animal Health Trust Equestrian Awards were announced at London’s Hilton Hotel on Monday 16 October.

    Topping the list of awards is Vere Phillipps who was chosen as the winner of the Horse & Hound Equestrian Personality of the Year voted by the readers of the magazine.

    With his late wife Polly’s horse Coral Cove, Vere achieved great success in the eventing world this season finishing fourth at Gatcombe and Bughley.

    The Sporting Award went to the British Olympic Three-Day Event team – Ian Stark, Pippa Funnell, Jeanette Brakewell and Leslie Law – together with chef d’equipe Yogi Breisner – who claimed silver in Sydney, the first medal in this discipline since 1988.

    The Schering-Plough Animal Health Top Horse Award, whichwas also chosen by the readers of Horse & Hound, went to Sheik Mohammed’s Dubai Millennium, who had a successful but short racing career.

    The Bloodlines Racing Award went to David Nicholson who rode his first winner in 1955 and went on to win 590 races in a 23-year career.

    The Animal Health Trust Voluntary Service Award went to the well known commentator and international course-designer Mike Tucker.

    The Schering-Plough Animal Health Outstanding Veterinary Achievement Award went to John Walmsley, who set up practice in Liphook, Hants, in 1976 which has grown to be one of the largest equine hospital in the country.

    The Animal Health Trust Special Award was won by Jennie Loriston-Clarke, founder of the Catherston Stud in Hampshire, who recently announced her retirement.
