Nicky Barrett and Giorgio S win Butcher’s Pet Care Grand Prix on second day of Mercedes Benz National Dressage Championships at Stoneleigh
Butcher’s Pet Care Grand Prix
With 20 starters in the grand prix, including team riders the stage was set for a competitive national championship. Laura Richardson and Millenium set the standard scoring more than 67%, which was then broken by this year’s team reserves Nicky Barrett and Giorgio S, who raised the stakes with an assured and mistake free test.
The score just short of 70.0% remained unbeaten. Competitive rides from defending champion Peter Storr and Gambrinus and Emile Faurie and Rascher Hopes ensured a close one, two, three.
The title of National Champion will only be decided after tomorrow’s grand prix kur – the scores of both classes added together to decide the winner.
The closeness of the top three will ensure an exciting competition and a winner worthy of the title.
Passier Intermediaire I
Becky Moody continued her winning form to take her second national championship winning the Passier Intermediaire I with Kwadraat.
Another long class, Becky was one ofthe early starters and had to endure a long wait for her victory to be confirmed. Emile Faurie and Catherine Adair’s Dutch-bred gelding Reuters Domingo took second place, while Daniel Timpson took third place, matching his placing in the previous prixst georges championship.
HorseHage Medium (restricted)
A fluent and rythmic test from 17-year-old junior team rider Maria Eilberg and Clair Pardo’s German bred gelding Prinz Heinrich ensured a unanimous victory in the restricted medium.
Tina Bradley and the Irish bred gelding Who Knows took second place while international Swiss event rider Christian Landolt and his event horse Lord Simba were third.
HorseHage medium (open)
Carl Hester and the chesnut Donnerhallgelding Dolendo claimed a hotly contested national medium open championship, gaining the verdict from all three judges and the only rider to break 70%.
Northern regional champions Gareth Hughes and Nurejev tok second place, with Nathalie Heappey and the former show jumper MCF Pro Bono a close third.
Last year’s elementary champions Henriette Andersen and the Dutch-bred stallion Astonish had to settle for fourth place shared with Lesley Peyton-Gilbert and her Dutch bred stallion ZV Lagos.
