Dog lovers with an interest in the working variety should head down to Malvern, Worcs, where the National Working and Pastoral Breed Society championship show takes place this weekend (21 July).
The action gets underway at 9am with spectators able to enjoy sheepdogs being shown in the pastoral classes alongside Rottweilers and Great danes vying for top dog in the working classes. Balancing out the best puppy class is the veteran stakes for dogs aged over seven.
Dogs that win at this Kennel Club championship show qualify for a place at the ultimate dog show, Crufts, and it is possible that previous Best of Breed winners at that very show will be among those making an appearance on Saturday.
Spectators are asked to leave their own four- legged friends at home, however, as show secretary Mrs Arch points out, “Only those dogs entered in the show are allowed to enter the showground. In view of this, dogs who are not participating should be left at home, because in hot weather its vital that no dogs are left unattended in cars.”
