If you’ve always wanted your own personalised “horsey” number plate, here’s your chance.
The government’s car registration agency, the DVLA, is holding an auction of plates from its ClassicCollection at Ascot Racecourse on 7-8 June.
The department holds around five such auctions a year when it issues plates with a particular theme.
Around 800 plates go on sale in each, but this is only the second time there’s been one for horse enthusiasts – the first was in 1997.
The DVLA’s auction manager, Damian Lawson said: “People are buying personalised number plates for all sorts of reasons these days – to promote their businesses, for a bit of fun or to tell the world what they do in life.
“Demand is definitely on the increase. Five years ago average prices were around £2,000 per plate, now it’s around £4,000. Some plates can fetch around £40,000 to £50,000. We can raise around £3m for the Treasury on these sales.”
Registrations at the Ascot sale include: W1 NNR, HOR 53Y, G41 LOP and S7 UDS.
The organisers are expecting around 300 people there for each of the two days.
People can put in bids on the internet, by phone, writing in with their maximum bida week before, or simply turning up on the day.
