Car crash victim takes veteran championship


  • The 24-year-old chestnut gelding, Gypsy Lando, went on to take the Super Solvitax Veteran Championship 2000 after winning the 21 to 25-year-old class at the championship.

    Liz Sharp of Rempstone, near Loughborough, Lincs, has owned Gypsy for 20 years during which he has survived deliberate poisoning, a badly cut leg and being hit by a car while out hacking.

    He also successfully negotiated a five-bar gate when a helicopter that made an impromptu landing in his field.

    In his younger days,Gypsy was a successful show horse, winning at county level and qualifying for the Royal International Horse Show.

    He competed both side-saddle and astride in the show ring, as well as being successful in dressage, show jumping and working hunter competitions.

    “Gypsy has won six veteran qualifiers this season – he is wise, cheeky, brilliant and aristocratic. He is my horse of a lifetime,” said a delighted Liz.
