Visitors to HORSE 2001 roadshow are being asked to bring with them any unwanted items of horse equipment to help equip the British Horse Society Rescue Centre at Oxhill, Warwicks.
The initiative is being supported by Olympic silver medal-winning event rider Jeanette Brakewell and international show jumper Rob Hoekstra, who will be giving demonstrations at the event at Solihull Riding Club on 11 August.
Jeanette is donating an item that she took to the Sydney 2000 Olympics, while Rob will be bringing a piece of tack used when he won the Hickstead Derby on Lionel in 1999.
“We are looking for people to donate items we can use on a day-to-day basis, such as headcollars, leadropes or grooming equipment,” says Zarra Lea, manager of the centre, which cares for 26 horses.
“Every rider or owner has items of equipment that they don’t use any more and rather than letting it gather dust in the corner of a tack room, they should bring it along to HORSE 2001 and the horses and ponies rescued by the BHS can benefit.
What is HORSE 2001?
HORSE 2001roadshow is a packed day of demonstrations, horsecare talks and trade stand shopping. As well as demonstrations by Jeanette and Rob, show jumping trainer and TV commentator Stephen Hadley, dressage supremo Jennie Loriston-Clarke and behavioural expert Richard Maxwell will be passing on their expert advice to visitors.
Other entertainment includes teams from local riding clubs competing in Working Equitation, a new equestrian sport combining freestyle dressage and negotiating obstacles.
The finale will be performed by El Caballo De Espana and their beautiful Spanish horses.There is also a chance to see the fantastic £22,000 horsebox which is being given away in a competition in HORSE magazine, sponsored by Dodson & Horrell.
Tickets to the event are £12 for adults, £8 for students or children under 16, while children under five are free. A family ticket is also available at £30, which admits two adults and two children under 16. Tickets can be ordered by calling (tel: 01403 256255) or through HORSE magazine.
