The Sports Pony Studbook Society holds its first grading day next week
The first ever grading day for sports ponies in this country is being held in Chippenham, Wiltshire on 2 September.
The Sports Pony Studbook Society was formed in March to breed British sports ponies using the same methods used in Europe for the past 25-30 years.
Chair of the society, Celia Clarke, said: “Our main concern is to breed ponies for competition sports.
“We will be assessing them for qualities like athleticism, paces and temperament, rather than because they have pointy toes.
“Judging by the interest at our stand at Addington a few weeks ago, people are going to be enthusiastic once they know a bit more about it.”
The society welcomes stallions, colts, mares and fillies over two years old owned by its members and not exceeding 153cm for grading. There will also be classes for young stock of all ages.
The September day will be at the New Priory Stud in Chippenham. There will be a further grading day in October in Staffordshire.
