British Riding Clubs’ drive for members

  • Discussions at the BRC’s annual conference included increasing membership and the development of championships.

Top priority of the British Riding Clubs (BRC) annual conference at Stoneleigh was the promotion of riding clubs and recruitment of more members.

According to reports, membership has remained fairly static over the past year despite FMD. Clubs are now being encouraged to promote local activities and run recruitment campaigns.

Delegates requested that the BRC consider the introduction of a new show jumping championship in 2003, to fit between the existing novice and open championships.

The major event for BRC in 2002 will be to host, for the first time, the Riding Club European Horse TrialsChampionships (Rural Riders European Championships). This will be held at Hartpury College, Gloucestershire from 2 to 7 July, having been postponed from 2001.

The conference also paid tribute to Peter Felgate, retiring from the BRC executive committee after 21 years, having held the positions of Competitions Director and Vice Chairman.
