Some of Britain’s finest stallions – from Thoroughbred to Suffolk Punch – will be on parade at Newmarket in December
Two of the National Stud’s latest arrivals, Golden Snake and Mutamam, will be making their debut at the stud’s annual fair on 1 and 2 December.
The fair, sponsored for the third year by Horse & Hound, includes parades of Thoroughbreds, Sports Horses and Arabs.
But it will also have seven stallions from its local breed, the Suffolk Punch, parading on both days.
Spokeswoman for the fair, Lesley-Anne Evans, said: “As we are based in Suffolk we want to do our bit to promote the breed which is the rarest heavy horse in the country.”
Lesley-Anne says the fair is attracting more interest each year, which she believes is partly because it not only has the stallion parades but there are also a large number of trade stands.
The stud’s new horse, Golden Snake, is expected to attract a lot of interest as a prospect for 2002 . The five-year-old bay is the only son of Danzig standing in Europe to have won four Group 1 races.
The British Bloodstock Agency Stallion parade will take place twice daily. On Saturday, there will be a parade of stallions registered with Sport Horse Breeding and a parade of Thoroughbreds standing at fees under £2,500.
On Sunday, there will be a parade of Arab stallions and a demonstration by the Side Saddle Association. The entry fee is £10 per car or £5 single occupancy daily.
