Financial boost for point-to-points

  • Point-to-points awarded £200,000 by the Horserace Betting Levy Board

The Horserace Betting Levy Board is allocating £200,000 to point-to-point grants in 2002.

The level of grants per course will range from £1,468 to £2,643, an increase of up to 4.5% compared to the 2001 level, depending on how many fixtures are held at the 119 courses. The grants assist in covering some of the costs of course preparation and safety measures.

The Levy Board has also decided to provide £107,960 in point-to-point grants for the disrupted 2001 season.

The Board ruled that payments will be made under the scheme, in addition to the fixtures that took place, for many of the abandoned meetings due to the FMD epidemic, which caused the point-to-point season to end prematurely on 24 February.

A payment scheme has been devised, which aims to provide a suitable level of payment for abandoned fixtures, with a cut-off point of 1 April 2001.
