Welcome boost for British teams

  • New performance planner will work alongside show jumping team manager Derek Ricketts to help develop British riders

Phil Dicks has been appointed as world class performance planner forshow jumping by the BSJA and British Equestrian Federation. Phil was previously at Sport England, working with governing bodies from a wide range of sports, helping them develop plans for Lottery Sports Fund support.

While he will initially concentrate on show jumping, working alongside recently appointed team manager Derek Ricketts, Phil’s remit will eventually also include the dressage and eventing teams.

World class performance director Matt Straker said: “We are pleased to welcome Phil Dicks, and look forward to benefiting from his wide experience of performance development. He has no specific equestrian background, which means that he can bring a fresh eye to our sport.”

The role of performance planner will involve developing programmes for riders, which will take into account both the horse and rider as individuals and as a combination.

Identifying how riders will get results at both the World Equestrian Games and the Olympics and liasing with the team managers will also be Phil¡s responsibility.
