A sponsored ride organised by the Wimbledon Village Stables in London raises £16,500 for a cancer charity
A 10-mile ride on London’s Wimbledon Common and Richmond Park in Surrey has raised more than £16,500 for the Macmillan Cancer Relief fund and a number of local charities and organisations.
It brings the total raised by the ride since it started in 1976 to nearly £400,000.
The ride’s organiser, Carol Andrews, said: “The dreadful crisis caused by FMD meant that it was uncertain at one point if the ride would go ahead at all. However, we had a great turnout this year with 153 riders.
“Once again, the Wimbledon and Putney Conservators and the Royal Parks Agency have been generous in their support.
We genuinely couldn’t run the ride without them.”
Twenty-year-old Daniel Coutts from Putney, South London, riding Inkerman, won for the second year running, presenting organisers with £1,785. His prize is a four-day riding holiday on the Big Sky trail at Klein Karoo in South Africa.
Three other riders raised more than £1000 – Tina Marshall, JonniLeger and Kate Bland.
