  • A 17-year-old girl gets a four-month custodial sentence after being found guilty of causing “unnecessary suffering” to a horse

A magistrates court in Folkestone, Kent, has handed out a custodial sentence to a teenager who was found guilty of causing “unnecessary suffering” to her horse.

The two-year-old gelding was found in an emaciated state by the RSPCA after a complaint by a member of the public.

The court case came after the girl has been given a warning by the RSPCA about the state of the horse. It was seized by the society after a vet examined it.

The horse has been signed over to the RSPCA and has since been rehomed.

The RSPCA says itis rare to prosecute teenagers of that age, although there have been a few cases. The girl has also been banned from keeping horses for two years.
