Top PSI horses sold to Britain

  • The two top lots from this year’s PSI sale in Germany will be travelling to the UK after being bought by British owners

Top lot at this year’s PSI sale in Germany, the five-year-old Holstein stallion Locarno (Lord Calidos G-Romino), will be coming to Britain after being bought by Amara Stud and Stephen Whitaker International for one million euros (around £622,000).

Under-16, under-18 and under-21 national champion Ellen Whitaker will compete Locarno, who was one of the top horses at the recent World Breeding Championships at Lanaken, Belgium. He will also stand at stud via frozen semen.

An unnamed British buyer paid 900,000 euros (around £560,000) for the top-priced dressage horse, the four-year-old Love Parade. This black mare (Lord Liberty G-Rubinstein) is already at a high stage of training and is considered a near-certainty to make the top.

Although no records were broken this time, 49 top-class dressage and show jumping prospects found new homes for an overall total of 10.401m euros (around £6.45m).

Two more show jumpers went to British buyers. The six-year-old Petwell (Peter Pan-Watzmann) sold for 85,000 euros (around £53,000) and the year younger Sildino (Silvio-Narew) made 75,000 euros (around £46,500).

Horses sold for good prices to buyers from all around the world, although Surprise Du Jour (Sandro Hit-Weltmeyer), who made the second top dressage price of 530,000 euros (around £328,500), will stay in Germany.

Another German purchase was the show jumping stallion Qualandro (Quick Star-Aldatus). This seven-year-old, who is competing at 1.50m level, made 720,000 euros (around £446,000).
