A centre in Scotland is offering fun holidays for dogs . . . and their owners
Does your dog deserve a holiday where he can go canoeing, take up line dancing, playgames, discover forests and beaches , plus enjoy a special massage?
That’s the deal on offer at Dog-Day Activity Holidays in Anstruther, Fife in Scotland.
Owner and animal behaviour therapist, Margaret McCabe believes holidays are not only fun, they can also be therapeutic for dogs and owners too.
“The idea came from my work as a behaviourist as well as from the holidays I’ve been on with dogs,” she explains.
“So often they turned into stressful nightmares for me and the dogs.”
Margaret says some of the activities on offer at the centre are ideal for heelwork training and help make dogs more supple.
“With line dancing and Scottish country dancing, the dogs follow the owners and it’s amazing what you cando with unlimited supplies of liver cake, ” she said.
“Dogs also seem to find the rides in the canoes very relaxing.”
Margaret and her husband arrange the activities from the centre, although clients are booked into local bed and breakfast accommodation.
These are graded on a “bone” system and range from those which provide only a dog bed and bowl ¢ for one bone ¢ to those which provide dog sitting (five bones).
Prices for accommodation range from £17.50pp per night to £35pp per night. The cost of the centre ranges from £80 for two days to £175 for five days.
