One of the world’s biggest insurers of high-value horses is sponsoring show jumper Tim Stockdale during Olympia
Horse insurance company, QBE, has agreed a sponsorship deal withshow jumper, Tim Stockdale, for the five days of Olympia, which amounts to £1,000 a day.
This is the company’s first serious sponsorship of show jumping in this country.
Spokesman, David Ashby, said: “We have big accounts worldwide in the bloodstock industry with high-value show jumpers and dressage horses in Europe
“Show jumping is a big sport on TV in Europe, which was the attraction of Olympia – we want television exposure – and Tim has a high profile.
“At the moment we’re dipping a foot in the water. We will see what the response is and if it’s good, we would like to expand our interest.”
Tim Stockdale, who recently lost his Traxdata sponsorship, is delighted.
“We need to be more market-friendly in showjumping, ” he said.
“Let’s say to companies – try us, we are a good sport, even if that means agreeing to a short-term deal just as a taster. Most riders want a three-year deal, but our days as a premier sport on TVare gone – we can’t turn offers away.”
Tim says he would not have been able to take up such a short-term deal under the BSJA’s national rules, but the FEI has allowed him to do it.
Tim will be riding Wiston Bridget, Glenwood Springsand Parcival at Olympia and all will be carrying the QBE prefix.
