Could you outrun a horse ?

  • Bookmakers William Hill are looking for runners and riders to take part in the 23rd “man v horse” marathon on 18 May

Bookmakers William Hill is offering £23,000 to a runner who can beat a horse in a marathon race in Llanwrtd Wells in Wales.

The race, which takes place on 18 May, will be run over mountainous terrain, farm tracks and forestry roads.

So far, it’s always been the horses that have won the race, albeit by a matter of seconds. .

“Of course we stick to the rules very carefully, but apart from that it’s a very informal race and a brilliant day,” said spokeswoman for William Hill, Serena Monberg.

The organisers will be holding a stamina- boosting pasta party on the Friday evening before the race at the Neuadd Arms in the centre of Llanwrtyd Wells. The party (from 7pm to 9pm) is free to all competitors.

The American long distance runner, Tom Johnson, is being invited totake part in the race. Tom recently beat an Arab horse by 30 seconds in a 50-mile race in the desert sands of the United Arab Emirates.
