British mare is top young horse


  • British-bred mare tops first event in the SEIB/BEF young horse evaluation series

    The inaugural South Essex Insurance Brokers young horse evaluation series for four-year-olds got under wayat The College EC, Beds on 23 February.

    Of the eight horses forward the British-bred mare, Treswigga caught the eye of judges Richard Meade, Katy Holder-Vale and Caroline O’Hara gaining the highest marks overall and heading the show jumper section.

    Bred by Vincent Jones, Treswigga scored nine for her ability in the loose jumping section, was runner-up among the event horses, and was both best British-bred and best mare.

    By the proven stallion Welton Crackerjack, she is out of a Thoroughbred mare by Karlinsky.

    Vin, who is a great supporter of British breeding, said: “These classes are heading us in the right direction and people have to realise that this is the way we have to go forward if we are to take sport horse breeding seriously.”

    Gironde, a gelding by Garcon out of a Glucksfall mare, headed the dressage horses with 6.8 points, while the Dutch-bred stallion Ruben, a son of Lorenzo, topped the eventers with 7.5 points.

    Caroline O’Hara said: “We were pleased with the standard and the presentation of the horses, none of which were over-trained. Treswigga showed a wonderful attitude which really caught the eye.”
