Ride with Ginny Elliot

  • Your chance to join former Olympic event rider Ginny Elliot on a sponsored ride to raise money for charity

British eventing legend, Ginny Elliot, is to spend four days in July riding 60 miles to help raise money for spinal research.

The charity is hoping it can raise around £48,000, which will go towards clinical trials planned for 2005 to test work which is proving successful in the laboratory.

Chairman of the Scientific Committee for Spinal Research, Dr James Fawcett, said: “We believe that there are three treatments which have proven successful in experiments and which have the potential partly to repair spinal cord injuries.”

Ginny Elliot said she was delighted to be part of the charity ride.

” I really believe that it’s about time something was done about the terrible effect of spinal chord injury and this is a chance for riders to get involved.

” Spinal Research’s work is vital for future generations. I’m glad to be part of it.”

This year’s ride is the first organised by the charity itself but marks the end of the second year of the charity’s campaign, Saddle-Up, which has already raised more than £30,000 for the researchprogramme.

The ride will take place along the Ridgeway Trail, starting in Froxfield, Wilts, and ending at Stoke Mandeville in Buckinghamshire.

Riders are being invited to join Ginny on the ride for a day, which will average around 15 miles.

Riders will pay £15 for an entry fee and must have a minimum of £100 sponsorship.
