Germany wins driving World Cup

Germany’s Michael Freund is crowned champion in the inaugural driving World Cup

Top German four-in-hand driver Michael Freund has become the 2002 World Champion, following a win at the final event in G”teborg, Sweden earlier this month.

Michael claimed victory over American driver Chester Weber, who took an early lead in the series but finished 10 points adrift.

Michael won three of his four competitions with a second place in Dortmund, Germany.

How the series worked

Each driver in the series took part in four of the eight competitions and was awarded points depending on their placing. The World Champion was the driver who accumulated the highest number of points during their four events.

Each event took place indoors and did not include dressage. The competition was held around a course that combined marathon-type and cone obstacles. The rounds were against the clock.
