Britain’s leading show jumper Michael Whitaker has a new sponsor
Top show jumper Michael Whitaker is to become the lynchpin of the new Paul Schockem”hle International (PSI) show jumping team. Michael has been without a backer since the loss of Virtual Village last summer.
Other members of the four-man team are Ireland’s Peter Charles, German Sydney Olympic team gold medallist Otto Becker and his compatriot, Olympia grand prix winner Markus Merschformann, currently sidelined with a broken leg.
“This is a great weight off my shoulders,” said Michael. “It’s very expensive travelling the world to international shows every week and I feel so much pressure knowing that if I don’t win I’ll lose money and would have been better staying at home.
“Now everything will change and I already feel more relaxed. Paul eventually hopes to find us another sponsor, with PSI involved to a lesser degree.”
The 2001 European team gold medallist Peter Charles said: “If it all works out as planned it’s a great idea. We’re still allowed to negotiate individual contracts and my first target is the Hamburg Derby.”
