Magical setting for Narnia ride

  • Celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee and raise funds for charity by riding through the Surrey countryside

If riding through the beautiful Surrey countryside sounds appealing then don’t miss the Narnia endurance ride, which takes place at the Priory Equestrian Centre, near Farnham, on 2 June – the weekend of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.

In addition to Endurance GB affiliated rides ranging from 20- to 50-miles, the event includes a 12-mile pleasure ride, which is open to non-members.

“The Narnia ride was named after the countryside which it passes through,” explains ride organiser Maggie Pattinson. “And this year’s Jubilee Charity pleasure ride will be an ideal introduction to endurance for first-timers.”

The organisers are expecting up to 180 competitors at the event, including a number of top British endurance riders in the 50-mile race ride. The ride’s route winds its way through the Devils Punch Bowl and Thursley village before finishing on local sandy tracks.

“The 50-mile ride is a good choice for riders competing in their first race ride,” says Maggie. “The route follows many of the William Cobbett trails, which were featured in Meridian TV’s “Rural rides” programme.”

Funds raised from the Jubilee ride are to be donated to the Phyliss Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham, a popular local charity.

  • On The Hoof Distance Training, a company that specialises in training individual for long distance riding, is organising a vet gate/crewing training session on 18 May which is aimed at competitors intending to compete in their first race ride at Narnia.
